I walked out of work two days ago and hit the Unlock button on my key fob. It didnt work. I hoped that, being a ten year old fob for my '03 Stratus R/T, it had died. I also knew that winter had just hit us and before driving it that morning it had sat for two days. Climb in and turn the key to ON. Everything lights up. Good sign. Turn to start and I get nothing. No slow sad puppy-dog cranking. No clicking. Just the lonely sound of a dead battery. Jumper cables uselessly sitting at home, I decided to wait for the lot to clear so I can catch it in gear. A friend of mine who works with me was walking by and we got some cables and jumped it.
I had to make a stop at the pediatrician on my way home and figured the alternator would have time to perform the job of charging my old girl up. As I walked away I hit Lock... Nothing. I cringed as I realized the parking lot was flat and there was no way to catch it in gear. When I came back out the same scenario as before played out. When I turned the key though, Gracie started right up. My key fob was dead. The whole reason my car didnt start the first time was because of the engine immobilizer. I knew it was equipped but the weather and timing had convinced me that the battery had died.
I hate winter.
